The Style System: What Do Tonari, Fuwa, Emburo and Others Mean?

Japanese character sock manufacturers name different design variants within the same character family. The naming can seem cryptic, but each name indicates a distinct pattern or aesthetic. Here is what each means for the Totoro range:

• Tonari: The cheerful, classic all-over Totoro print. The most recognisable and popular Totoro sock design.
• Fuwa: A softer, slightly more playful Totoro design.
• Emburo: A more refined, elegant version of the Totoro print, suitable for slightly smarter outfits.
• Nei: A fresh, slightly different Totoro design that complements the other styles.
• Deta: A cute-meets-elegant design that works for casual and smart-casual wear.
• Kassa: Totoro in the iconic rainy scene with the kassa (leaf umbrella), perfect for cosy weather.

Totoro Socks: Six Styles

We carry six Totoro sock styles: Tonari, Fuwa, Emburo, Nei, Deta and Kassa. All fit women's and youth EU 38-40 / US 5-8 / UK 4.5-7.5 and are made from a comfortable polyester and cotton blend. All are officially licensed.

Kiki's Delivery Service Socks: Four Styles

Kiki and Jiji socks are among our most popular non-Totoro socks. We carry: Kiki standard, Kiki Emburo, Kiki Teatime (a cosy Jiji teatime design) and Kiki Rashi (the adult EU 40-43 size, made in Japan). The Rashi size is particularly notable as it is the only Ghibli sock we carry in a larger adult size.

Sizing and Care

All Ghibli socks in our range (except Kiki Rashi) fit EU 38-40. Machine wash cold. Do not tumble dry the character print to preserve the design. The polyester and cotton blend is breathable and durable for everyday wear.
