Ghibli Bento: The Films Come to the Table

The bento tradition in Japan is worth understanding before getting into the specific products. A bento is not just a packed lunch - it's a cultural practice that communicates care, attention and a particular relationship between the person who prepares it and the person who eats it. The lunches prepared in My Neighbor Totoro, the ramen bowl in Ponyo, the food stalls and spirit provisions in Spirited Away - these are all part of a continuous thread in Japanese life that Miyazaki depicts because he knows it well and values it.

Our Ghibli eat and drink collection brings officially licensed Ghibli character design into that daily practice. These are real kitchen and lunch objects, made in Japan to Japanese safety standards, that happen to carry Ghibli artwork.

Bento boxes

Our Ghibli bento box range currently features Ponyo: a bright design inspired by the bowl in the film, 360 ml capacity, with a removable inner divider and secure lid. Made in Japan, BPA free, not dishwasher safe. Dimensions: L14.8 x W12.3 x H5.1 cm - a standard single-portion size for adults.

Thermal bento bags

A bento bag insulates your lunch, keeps the box contained, and - with a Ghibli design - makes the daily carrying of lunch feel considered rather than utilitarian. We carry three thermal versions:

• Totoro O bento bag (26.5 x 27 x 12 cm) - Non-woven fabric exterior, thermal aluminium lining. Fits a full bento box and water bottle.
• Ponyo bento bag (26.5 x 27 x 12 cm) - Same format with Ponyo graphic.
• Kiki bento bag (22 x 11.5 x 16 cm) - Polyester and aluminium, slightly more compact. Fits a lunch box and bottle.

Cutlery sets

Compact carrying cases with chopsticks and spoon, made in Japan from food-safe materials:

• Kiki Aqua cutlery set - Chopsticks and spoon in a Kiki case. ABS PET construction.
• Ponyo cutlery set - Chopsticks, spoon and fork in a Ponyo case.

A note on chopstick use

Japanese chopsticks are slightly shorter and more tapered than Chinese or Korean variants - designed for individual use with individual rice bowls rather than shared dishes. The sets in our range follow this format. If you're new to chopsticks, the shorter length is actually easier to control than the longer Chinese style.

• Kiki's Delivery Service frying pan - Non-stick aluminium, 14 cm diameter, gas hob only. One of the more unusual items in our range and consistently popular with Kiki fans.
• Kiki plates set - Four BPA-free polypropylene plates, 21 cm each.
• Totoro food storage box set - M and S containers with hand towel, microwave safe.
• Kiki water bottle - 500 ml stainless steel, 6-hour hot/cold retention.
• Ponyo one-touch bottle - 480 ml with strap, BPA free.
• Totoro travel mug - 350 ml stainless steel, hot and cold.
